Residencies
The residencies are directed towards established artists working in painting, drawing or writing. We provide large scale personal studio space and self-catering accommodation. Our aim is to provide you with the resource and situation to enable you to make high quality work.
All the studios have natural daylight. There are two painters studios each 50msq and there is a drawing studio of 40msq. Depending on residency occupancy the painters studios can easily be reconfigured into one 100msq space. The studios are open during daylight hours, though we respect some artists may wish to work in artificial light.
The painters studio walls are 3.2m high and 6.5m long, The drawing studio walls are 3m high and 4m long. There is also a technical drawing table situated on a mezzine in the drawing studio. The studios are ideal for artists wishing to explore large scale work, or sequential work in a big space.

When a residency is accepted a contract-agreement is issued that outlines our offer, the dates and the price. A payment schedule will be outlined in the contract-agreement. A deposit of between 5% to 10% will be requested with return of the signed contract-agreement.
A balance of 50% payment of the total residency price will be required 16 weeks before your residency start date and payment in full is required at least 8 weeks before your arrival. You will be given a receipt for each payment. Places are not fully secured until the contract-agreement is signed/returned and the initial deposit is paid.
-
We understand people have busy lives with family and work commitments and sometimes the unexpected happens.
If you need to cancel your agreed residency dates we will guarantee to repay your initial deposit of between 5% to 10% if you cancel before 16 weeks of your start date (16 week deadline outlined in payment schedule).
If you cancel after you have paid the 50% balance of your total residency fee (due 16 weeks before your start date) we guarantee to repay half of that back (25% of total price), as long as you notify us before 8 weeks of your start date (8 week deadline outlined in the payment schedule). If we can find a suitable (professional equivalent) replacement artist we will repay all your fees.
If you cancel after you have paid the full residency fee (due at least 8 weeks before the start date) we will always endeavour to repay all your fees back in full as long as we can find a suitable (professional equivalent) replacement. If a replacement artist cannot be found we reserve the right to repay you 25% of the total residency fee and 75% of the residency price will be retained. We will always be happy to explore alternative arrangements if you need to cancel your residency at short notice, however this will always be subject to availability.
Please notify us asap if you think you need to cancel to give us enough time so we can find a suitable replacement.
We strongly encourage everyone to take out a suitable travel insurance policy that will cover your costs in the unlikely event of cancellation.
In the unlikely event of any emergency where we need to cancel your residency we guarantee to repay your total fees paid to date. We will be happy to explore alternative arrangements if we have to cancel your original residency dates.

The residency is self-funded by the artist. We recommend applying to your regional/national arts council or equivalent, or a charitable trust where your personal circumstances qualify. We have both previously received significant Arts Council UK and AHRC UK funding. We are happy to provide you with some guidance on making a funding application.

The drawing studio is 40msq located in the upper part of the house, the space is shared between both artists. We only accommodate two artists at any one time.
